Bachelor of Computer Application
Overview
BCA is Tribhuvan University's application-oriented computing degree, administered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences rather than the science faculty. Where BSc CSIT leads with theory, BCA leads with building: web technologies, mobile application development, database administration, and a substantial project and internship component in the final year.

Who it suits
Students who want to write software professionally without a mathematics-first curriculum, and students from +2 Management who studied Computer Science — BCA is one of the few computing degrees that accepts them. The internship requirement means graduates typically leave with real workplace experience attached to their CV.
Think twice if
You intend to pursue a research master's or move into machine learning. BCA's lighter theory core means you will need to backfill algorithms and mathematics independently. Also check who actually teaches the practical papers at your chosen college — BCA quality varies more between colleges than any other TU computing degree.
BCA compared to BSc CSIT
BCA is the more accessible entry — lower mathematics requirement, open to non-Science +2 streams, and easier to get a seat. BSc CSIT is the stronger transcript for postgraduate study. For a first developer job in Nepal, employers treat them as broadly equivalent.
Eligibility and entrance
+2 or equivalent in any stream with minimum 45% aggregate (or 1.8 CGPA), having studied Mathematics or Computer Science at grade 11 or 12, plus a pass in the TU FoHSS entrance examination.
