BSc Computer Science and Information Technology
Overview
BSc CSIT is Tribhuvan University's most technically demanding undergraduate computing degree. It is built on a computer science core — data structures, algorithms, operating systems, computer architecture, database systems, computer networks and software engineering — with mathematics running alongside for the first four semesters. Later semesters open into electives such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, cloud computing and cryptography, and every student ships a final-year project.
What the syllabus covers
- Programming in C, C++ and Java across the first four semesters
- Discrete mathematics, statistics and numerical methods
- Data structures, algorithms and theory of computation
- Operating systems, computer networks and system programming
- Database management and software engineering
- Final-year project plus electives in AI, ML or security
Who it suits
Students who enjoyed mathematics at +2 and want the theoretical depth that makes later specialisation — machine learning, distributed systems, security research — actually accessible. If you intend to apply for a master's abroad, this is the strongest computing transcript Tribhuvan University issues.
Think twice if
The mathematics load is real, and it is where most dropouts happen: discrete maths, numerical methods and statistics are compulsory, not electives. If mathematics was your weakest +2 subject, BCA covers similar career ground with a lighter theoretical burden. The entrance is also the most competitive of TU's computing intakes, and seats at the strong colleges fill from the first priority list.
BSc CSIT compared to BCA
BSc CSIT is theory-first and mathematics-heavy; BCA is application-first with more coursework in web and mobile development. Both lead to developer roles, but BSc CSIT transfers better into postgraduate study, while BCA gets you building shippable software sooner.
Eligibility and entrance
+2 Science or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics, minimum 45% aggregate (or 2.0 CGPA with at least D+ in each subject), plus a pass in the TU IOST entrance examination.
Entrance
TU IOST entrance — 100 MCQs

We do not publish per-college fee figures, because they change every intake and a stale number is worse than none. Our cost guide explains how Nepali college fees are structured and what to ask before you pay.
